Recently the Lord gave me a clearer understanding to this verse which started my blogging "career". I shared this on 2 occasions just last week as this verse both encouraged me & shook me up.
As believers we have a Kingdom that cannot be shaken because Christ redeemed and secured it with His own blood. Knowing this encourages me to go on, even though things may get difficult or when the society pressures me to conform to it's norm. And I am grateful, because I really do not think I deserve it at all, yet the Lord graciously gave it to me.
Now the thing that shook me is the appropriate response we should have as believers. It is to give acceptable worship. What is acceptable? It is not acceptable to us, our own human standards but God's. Not only are we urged by the author to give acceptable worship but to do so with reverence and awe! Being in full time ministry does not necessary mean I am doing what is acceptable, with reverence and awe. I recall the times when I give slip shot and mediocre work to Him due to pressure or complete assignments out of routine/responsibility. Though the eyes of man may think that I am doing a good work, but when it's measured up with God's standards, will God say the same?
And the reason why the Lord desires a worship that is done with reverence and awe because He is a consuming fire. Just like the Israelites, who had to offer to God a complete sacrifice without blemish and witness the Lord simply consume the WHOLE sacrifice, what am I offering to God? Is it without blemish? Is it partial or complete?
This is the beauty of Scripture. There is always so much to gather and learn from it. But more than that, it is like a mirror, exposing areas of concern that one needs to work on in order to be the little Christ in this fallen world...
