As a Christian, we often want to hear God's voice don't we? Even as I was preparing a Bible study on John 10 with the students in my ministry, it is very evident that we should not be waiting for an audible voice to tell us how and what to do in life. God has left us with 2 things to help us hear Him. The BIBLE and the HOLY SPIRIT. But we often crowd out these voices because we entertain the other "voices" that we are exposed to ever so frequently. The media, our parents, our friends or even our feelings are "voices" we entertain then that small still voice from God.
Was reading the book "Choosing God's Best" and I think the author summarize very aptly how we can differentiate between God's voice and Satan's voice:
God's voice...
> Stills you
> Leads you
> Reassures you
> Enlightens you
> Encourages you
> Comforts you
> Calms you
> Convicts you
whereas Satan's voice...
x Rushes you
x Pushes you
x Frightens you
x Confuses you
x Worries you
x Obsesses you
x Condemns you
Yes, it may not be THE list, since it is not Scriptures, but it does give us enough to discern whether what we hear is indeed from God or not. But in the end, what will allow us to hear is voice is whether we have a close relationship with Him. We have that, we'll hear Him. We don't have that, no matter how many gimmicks or formulas or testimonies given will never give us that special moment with Him.
