Often when I read of disasters, persecutions and bizarre murder cases, the first thing that comes to my mind is why is evil so prevalent and indescribably wicked? Especially in the newspapers where you read of crazy crimes and insane treatment of fellow human beings, it is very saddening. Or when I read abut Christians undergoing persecution and much trial in their walk with God, it is agonizing.
But it was a timely reminder during service today that the reason such evil are prevalent in society is because the devil is desperate. Just like desperation drives one to do things unimaginable, the devil is desperate to get people away from the narrow gate and desperate to bring them away from the presence of God and is trying all ways and means to do so. Yes I should be sad, but I should also be comforted to know that when evil befalls and things get difficult, it is a sign that the devil is panicking and all the more I should remain steadfast. It is a confirmation that the devil feels threatened and wants to derail me.
I should panic, when things are going well for me and there seems to be nothing much happening in my Christian walk. No trials, no temptations, no hardship. Instead of it meaning that I am perfect, which is impossible in this perishable body, it could be that I am no threat to the devil and he is happy that I remain in this deluded form! That is a scary thought. Let me "look forward" to difficulties in our Christian journey and hang on to the hope that He is coming back again someday to establish a new Kingdom!
