"Seemingly, there is an erosion of moral values in our community, especially among the young these days. Not long ago, I noticed a group of primary school pupils shouting and banging at some slot machines at an amusement arcade. I asked an elderly supervisor there why he allowed such behaviour to persist. He replied that he risked being harmed later if he stopped them.
It appears that today's youth are devoid of respect for their elders. Maybe schools and parents are overly focused on academic excellence, and have neglected to teach their children the paramount importance of being caring and sympathetic towards others.
We must do something about this sorry state of affairs."
Over at the last Frisbee Competition, a few things really really irritate me loads until I decided to blog it down to remind myself not to become what I am irritated by:
- Thrash was just thrown and left all over the place even after repeated announcements, when it should be an automatic responsibility.
- Promises were broken and casually forgotten ("Ok, I will shift the table back", but never)
- Unwillingness to dirty one's hand. (To clear the trash)
- Unwillingness to do beyond one's "responsibility". (To pick up rubbish that is not thrown by the person, "Not I throw one, not I throw one...")
No doubt I still struggle with some of these issues sometimes (the fact that I complain means I am still petty), but I am thankful that the Lord has redeemed me nonetheless because I could very well be much worst than these people I see and read about.
